Over 25,000 ha areal extent of Permitted Coal Projects in KwaZulu-Natal
Combined Resource Base: >70 Million Tonnes In-Situ Anthracite

Misava and its project partners are advancing two high-potential anthracite projects: GeoPoint Colliery and Koudelager, both located within KwaZulu-Natal’s historic coalfields. With confirmed resources and near-term development potential, these projects position us to meet the growing demand for clean, high-grade anthracite in industrial, metallurgical, and export markets.

GeoPoint Colliery

Utrecht, KwaZulu-Natal | Flagship Anthracite & Lean Coal Project

GeoPoint is a brownfield coal project extending over 6,168 ha, adjacent to the former Balgray Colliery. With historical mining, modern geological modelling, and SAMREC-compliant resources, it’s ready for underground development targeting the Gus Seam, known for its excellent wash yields and carbon content.

Key Metrics:

  • Coal Type: Anthracite (Gus Seam)
  • Total Resource (MTIS): 14.9 Mt
  • 2.96 Mt Inferred
  • 6.35 Mt Reconnaissance
  • 5.6 Mt Additional Gus seam
  • Quality (Washed at 1.60 RD):
  • Ash: 11.3%
  • Fixed Carbon: 75.8%
  • Calorific Value: 30.3 MJ/kg
  • Yield: 81.6%

Strategic Fit

One of South Africa’s few scalable anthracite projects with modern compliance, infrastructure, and premium coal quality for local & International markets.

Development:

  • Mining Right application underway
  • Ramp-up to 50–55 kt/month underground production
  • Infrastructure under construction (access routes, section layout)

Koudelager Project

Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal

Koudelager is a proven anthracite resource with strong historical exploration and CPR validation. Located east of Vryheid, it hosts over 8 million tonnes of in-situ coal, across four economically viable seams — Lower/Upper Dundas, Alfred, and Gus. Quality parameters confirm premium-grade anthracite with >70% fixed carbon and ash as low as 16% in places.

Project Metrics:

  • Resource Base : ~8.2 Mt Indicated & Inferred
  • Typical Seam Quality:
  • Ash: 16–25%
  • FC: 66–77%
  • Low sulfur (<1%)

Development Path:

  • Surface & underground potential
  • Awaiting final Environmental Authorization
  • Mining Permit targeted for the second quarter of 2025
  • Access: Close to road and beneficiation plants; low ESG impact

Together, GeoPoint and Koudelager Offer:

  • Over 25,000 ha of strategic coal rights
  • +70 million tonnes of in-situ anthracite resources
  • Near-term production readiness and scalable output
  • Full alignment with Misava’s clean carbon strategy
